Praising him is our highest call. Honoring him is our greatest goal. Certainly, worshiping him is a privilege—but additionally a command we must observe. A command, however, which brings light, life, and liberation, not an unreasonable legalism.
When we choose to give the Lord our early morning moments, what He gives to us in return often surprises and delights us.

Praise the Lord! Psalm 149:1
To make an emphatic declaration or command, an exclamation point is used at the end of a sentence or phrase. The opening sentence of Psalm 149 concludes with such a mark. Humanity was created by God and exists for his purposes and desires. Praising him is our highest call. Honoring him is our greatest goal. Certainly, worshiping him is a privilege—but additionally a command we must observe. A command, however, which brings light, life, and liberation, not an unreasonable legalism. Sing to the Lord a new song. Sing his praises in the assembly of the faithful. Verse 1 reveals the psalmist’s overwhelming love and admiration for God. Although simple, this opening line of Psalm 149 is filled with deep emotions of conviction, joy, passion, and internal fulfillment. This is no quiet introduction easing into an eventual crescendo. No, this song immediately bursts open with power and energy to declare God’s praise—and this should be our own hearts’ responses to the goodness of God as well.
Lord, you are the center of all things and the center of my life. You have designed me to find my identity, purpose, value, and worth in you. My heart finds deep solace knowing I am created for you. I am set apart to praise you in all things. You are the source of life, so my heart bursts forth this morning in praise to you! Amen.
For yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever.
