WORD Come, let us worship and bow down. Let us kneel before the Lord our maker, for he is our God. We are the people he watches over, the flock under his care. If only you would listen to his voice today! Psalm 95:6–7 THOUGHT In the darkness of a cool autumn morning, I heard the unmistakable sound of a small flock of geese as it neared and then passed closely overhead. By spending a lot of time in the outdoors over the years, I’ve learned to identify many birds by the sounds of their call or voice. Anyone can learn; the only requirement is the willingness to set the time aside to listen. The Lord also has unmistakable and easily identifiable characteristics to his voice. Many experience and express difficultly in hearing God’s leading in life, and I have struggled with this in the past myself—and I still do at times. When I do struggle to hear from the Lord, I usually discover that either I’ve not taken the time to listen to him or it’s not yet time for the next step. Our Father does not withhold the sound of his voice from his children. He speaks to those willing to listen. His voice is heard as we invest time in reading the Bible, praying, and listening with a heart of openness and willingness. He still speaks. PRAYER Lord, you have not silenced your voice. You have never ceased to let your intentions be known. Your voice guides and leads me so I can follow you wholeheartedly. Holy Spirit, help me discern my heavenly Father’s voice from all other voices as I learn to listen fully. Amen. Don’t let us yield to temptation.
