Relationship, friendship, family—these are all words associated with the kingdom of God. The purpose of the work of Christ was to mend the broken relationship between humanity and God and restore holy communion with the Creator himself.

WORD “Now come and have some breakfast!” Jesus said. None of the disciples dared to ask him, “Who are you?” They knew it was the Lord. Then Jesus served them the bread and the fish. This was the third time Jesus had appeared to his disciples since he had been raised from the dead. After breakfast Jesus asked Simon Peter, “Simon son of John, do you love me more than these?” “Yes, Lord,” Peter replied, “you know I love you.” “Then feed my lambs,” Jesus told him. John 21:12–15 THOUGHT One morning after his resurrection, Jesus joined his disciples on a beach at dawn. He prepared breakfast and ate with them. Jesus was aware of the importance and value of each moment with his disciples, aware his ascension was close at hand. He knew each moment with them was of vital importance as it would further their knowledge and the purpose of his kingdom, for soon they would embark on the most monumental mission ever. This story reflects how Jesus Christ valued relationships—and relationships are one of the primary goals of his kingdom. In the midst of a very limited and important time frame, Jesus paused and rested with his friends to share a simple beachside breakfast. Relationship, friendship, family—these are all words associated with the kingdom of God. The purpose of the work of Christ was to mend the broken relationship between humanity and God and restore holy communion with the Creator himself. PRAYER In your kingdom, Lord, relationship thrives. Use me to further your kingdom purposes here on earth. Amen. May your kingdom come soon. May your will be done on earth, as it is in heaven.
