WORD God would surely have known it, for he knows the secrets of every heart. Psalm 44:20 THOUGHT Kardiognostes is used only twice in the New Testament. This Greek word means “knower of the hearts.” The disciples addressed the Lord with this word when they were praying for a replacement for Judas, “O Lord, you know every heart” (Acts 1:24). No one knows our hearts like God, and certainly no one cares about our hearts like God. He is aware of everything that is contained in our spiritual hearts. Even the things that may be so hidden that they are secrets kept from the entire world are not hidden from the heavenly Father. He is not only the knower of every detail, deed, and thought, but he is also the one who gently watches over the development of the heart. Our hearts mean more to him than they do to us. His intentions are to develop the healthiest, most wholesome hearts possible—hearts free of spiritual disease, strengthened by his spiritual provision, and beating in synchronization with his. The Holy Spirit will bring to our minds anything hidden in our hearts that may weaken, endanger, and cause damage to us or the Lord’s will. Unforgiveness is one of these dangers, so he will gently let us know of the things we wrongly hold against others, as unforgiveness is an ugly and damaging spiritual disease. May our hearts be pure before him. PRAYER Lord, you are the knower of the heart, the knower of my heart. Search my heart continually and please keep it free of any unhealthy thought or action. Amen. Forgive us our sins, as we have forgiven those who sin against us.
